Me Or The Moon with Weakness

Me Or The Moon with Weakness

Formed in 2001, Me or the Moon began as a duo with Matthew Shelton on vocals and kalimba/mbira (african thumb piano) and Victor Strunk on upright bass. They were joined by Tony Franklin on percussion and Joe Klug on organ in 2008.

The music of Me or the Moon draws influences from a wide variety of genres, with the aim of creating a sound that is completely its own while remaining rooted in traditional pop, world, rock and jazz music. Shelton's kalimba is at turns delicate and frenetic, while Strunk's bass adds a melancholic, rhythmic drone over Franklin's masterful drumming, with Klug tying everything together with precise ambient organ playing.

The quartet has developed a strong following in Cincinnati and beyond, despite its non-traditional instrumentation and on-and-off performance schedule. The group has received 3 Cincinnati Entertainment award nominations, along with playing shows opening for Animal Collective, High Places, Daniel Johnston, Extra Golden and others.

This is Me or the Moon's first show in 3 years, after 2 members relocated to New York and Chicago. Their full-length album, recorded with John Curley at Ultrasuede Studios, is scheduled for vinyl release by the end of the year.
