Melismatics (Minneapolis) w/ Day Camp
Over the past dozen years and half as many releases, The Melismatics have proven to be perfect standard bearers for Minneapolis’ quirky and infinitely cool Indie Rock scene. The quartet channels the brightest and edgiest New Wave/Indie Pop of the ‘80s and ‘90s while remaining connected to the incredible scene that spawned them. Led by yet another husband/wife team — Ryan and Pony Smith — The Melismatics write serious songs and somehow never take themselves very seriously, which is a fairly amazing feat. The band’s last album, the Jon Auer-produced 2012’s Mania!, found them blending punchy Synth Pop with their stratospheric Indie Rock energy, a direction they pursue even further on the forthcoming Rising Tide.
