Word of Mouth Cincinnati (WoMC)
According to its website WoMC is “an intentional arc of both past and future utterance, inspired by our most revered voice, with a nod to her Athens, GA compatriots. Word ofMouth asks poets to Show Up, Mouth Off and Pay Attention.”This month’s feature performer is Nick Barrows.
Nick Barrows delighted audiences as the bombastic concertina-playing portion of the band, Eagle to Squirrel. His words and lyrics, both sensitively self-reflective and raging, can only be described as big, booming, and unforgettable. His works have appeared inForklift, Ohio: A Journal of Poetry, Cooking, & Light Industrial Safety, Trained Monkey Press, and Semantikon, among others.
Additionally, Nick was the music editor for The Citizen, and his musical endeavors include The 4 Track All-Stars, Jack Burton Overdrive and JetLab.
In 2007, he released his first chapbook, Rockets on Bibles, and in 2012, Aurore Presspublished his most recent works of poetry under the title The Rabbit Punch Defense in a book shared with Mark Flanigan called Versus.
As CityBeat wrote of his work: “Barrows pens lyrics and poems intensely self-reflective and rattling... that become even more expressive via live performances.”
