PUP’S DEBUT ALBUM IS A PERFECT TEN

If Weezer made a punk record somewhere between the blue album and Pinkerton, this would be it. Or if the Bronx covered Modest Mouse songs. Or if… look, there are about a hundred ways to describe this record. All of them sort of make sense, but none of them do it justice. Right off the bat, the opener “Guilt Trip” immediately shows off what PUP does best: ripping guitar riffs, infectious hooks, cathartic, angst-ridden screams, and four-part gang vocals as they all shout, “Woah-oah-oh-oah!” And it’s all packed into a frenetic delivery that sounds like it could burst apart at the seams at any second, but somehow manages to stay tight with pinpoint accuracy. It’s more addictive than the crack that their hometown mayor is so publicly fond of. more at:

Typefighter

Over the course of two well-received fuzzfolk EPs,Typefighter built a reputation in the nation’s capital for disarming melodicism. With their debut full-length The End of Everything, the band has rewired its unique instrumentation into an arresting rock and roll record filled with pounding rhythms and roaring guitars. It’s a big, snappy sound that lives up to the raucous live sets the band has delivered on stage with bands like Titus Andronicus, Here We Go Magic, The So So Glos, Givers and We Were Promised Jetpacks. The End of Everything picks up where the sound of DC in the 1990s left off and ventures into uncharted pop territory.
